Aeroplane on a Conveyor Belt

Jason Kottke covers the Mythbusters episode where they tackle the infamous aeroplane on a conveyor belt problem.

The plane took off so easily. The laws of physics are proven correct once again.

Hurrah! I must admit, I wasn't too sure on this one. But as the engine thrust acts on the air, it doesn't matter too much what the wheels do. Eventually, the wings will cause the plane to lift off the treadmill and fly forwards, or so it seems...

Kottke is even selling t-shirts to commemorate the event.
