The Polyconic Projection

Cut the globe into n strips, each centred at a different parallel, and project each strip using the equidistant conic projection for each standard parallel.

In the limit, this produces the Polyconic projection!

The Polyconic projection is also known as the American Polyconic. “Polyconic” can also refer to the class of projections whose parallels are non-concentric circular arcs.
